The Milwaukee Breakwater Light sits within a major metropolitan area in eyesight of thousands of people every day, but it can be viewed closely only by boat. By Alfred Schreiber . The Milwaukee Breakwater lighthouse was built in 1926 in the harbor of Milwaukee in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin to mark the entrance to the harbor. The lighthouse is a white-painted steel tower guarding the main entrance to the harbor. By early 2016, according to local press accounts, there was little progress to show for these efforts, and as of 2020 there appears to be no activity at the lighthouse. One of the last fully enclosed breakwater lighthouses in the Great Lakes, the structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.
